Normally, when I’m operating my Volkswagen Passat hatchback around Iowa City, I like to listen to hardcore gangster rap. “Illmatic,” “Ready to Die,” “36 Chambers,” yeah those are my staples. My station wagon can hold nearly 40 bags of groceries and has electronic child locks, but it can also bump some serious bass.
That stuff’s alright when I’m out cruising for library books, but when I’m getting my study on, I need something more soothing. That’s when I turn to Thievery Corporation. Their music is mostly free of lyrics, is vaguely latin, and extremely comforting. If you’re looking for something to listen to on your headphones when rocking the casebooks, get on iTunes and check them out. My two favorite albums by them are “The Cosmic Game,” and “Mirror Conspiracy.” Both have an array of international singers, some sweet lounge music, and high replay value if you’re someone who takes your studying in long spells.
