Soon to be banned from the Grocery Store
April 29, 2008 by jaimiesuzi
It struck me yesterday that I am the sort of shopper that grocery stores must really dislike. This hit me as I was unzipping a bag of grapes and breaking one off to see if they were sweet. I covertly looked behind me to see if I was going to have to pretend to buy the bag, no-one was there so I quickly zipped up the bag and walked away. Now I wasn’t just doing this to get a free grape, I would have bought them if they hadn’t of been so sour.
That in of-itself isn’t so bad I suppose but the next thing actually got me into an argument with a guy I once dated. I have a habit of changing my mind in the grocery store, meaning I have a habit of taking things out of the cart and putting them back. This usually occurs when I see how much stuff I have in my cart and realize that I do not want to pay $150 for groceries. I take a look at my cart and make decisions: tangerines (can stay), apples (can stay), random vegetable that I don’t really like (OUT).
Now you may be thinking to yourself, that’s not bad, we are all apt and free to change our minds and I agree. However, my problem lies in the fact of where I return the item to. Random vegetables may end up with boxes of cookies, cookies may end up with the ketchup, ketchup may end up with spaghetti. You see I have an art to putting stuff back: I look around to make sure no-one is watching, reach into the cart, grab the item, dump it and walk on very quickly. This is of course not the correct way to do things and just adds work to the already overworked and underpaid employees at the store, I know that and feel bad. I really do. Kinda…
As an avid citrus-squeezer, I feel your pain. I’m sorry, but I am just not going to buy squishy oranges! Also, if I notice a can is dented at checkout, you can bet I’m going back to change it out, line be damned!
I feel your pain. I accidentally spent $6.77 on grapes tonight, only to find that they’re squishy and not that great. Sad.
Jaimie and I were grocery shopping together one time and she grabbed a piece of pizza-by-the-slice from the deli as soon as we got to the store. By the time we finished the rest of our shopping and got to the checkout line, Jaimie decided that the pizza was probably cold. She shoved the box behind a stack of magazines and also pushed some random vegetable in with the candy. No joke.
Jaren, did she take a bite of the pizza first to see if she liked it?
Hmm, I don’t remember the random veg by the candy but I do remember that slice of pizza and no I didn’t take a bite of it. hahahaha.
I seem to know someone else (no names mentioned, begins with J and ends with N and witnessed the pizza incident, ahem) who likes to dump things elsewhere as well, not sure if it was my influence or not. And who also may or may not have had an incident with the loose candy. :0)
