		<description>I could be wrong (it's a habit of mine) but I'm pretty sure Steve is right about needing to be enrolled in a university recognized externship (gov't or unpaid) and that the amount of additional financial aid you qualify for is contingent on the number of externship hours you register for. It's a part time v. full time student deal, same as with regular summer school aid.

However, anytime you are enrolled as a student, whether it's at Iowa or at another institution, and you are receiving Federal Aid, you can petition for a larger living allowance. So, if you choose to study in New York for a semester you can request that your living allowance is increased. They gave us an extra 4K for London..which, after the exchange rate, covered an extra three or four pints.</description>

		<description>Why isn't this plastered on every wall in the building?

I assume that you must take some sort of externship credit to be eligible for this.  I don't think loans just for living expenses are available.</description>
