Andrew, I'm on your side on this one. In high school, things are huge. A lot of peoples' lives "peak" in high school. You know who they are, they're selling used cars on Collins Road in Cedar Rapids now. I can't remember the proms I went to very well, but I remember them being a big freakin deal at the time.

Also, thanks for the note about being human. I missed a meeting this week too, and it was one that some people scheduled to fit my needs--then I didn't even show up. Feel like a total jerk. Sometimes that alone is enough of a punishment.

that sucks, but thems kinda da breaks. i miss deadlines all the time, and learning to adhere to them is an important part of becoming a responsible adult (and yes, the implicit suggestion is that i am not yet a "responsible adult"). by example, i just took 3 back-to-back finals (2 closed book) all because i failed to make arrangements before the makeup deadline. i pled with deb paul, to no avail. i didn't really mind. it was my own fault.

but then, i should probably confess that i am a hardcore, congressional-report-waving, oxford-dictionary toting, plain-language lunatic. so i'm sort of against the whole 'bend the rules when it seems unfair' concept.

it may be time for me to come out of the closet and admit i've turned into a republican.

Well, I can't say anything that will help assuage the injustice that has befallen your high-school friend, but perhaps this will help: It's just prom.

Prom was the biggest waste of time and money I ever spent. It's way over-hyped....sort of like a comic-book movie. You spend nine months drooling over the adverts, only to realize that Halle Berry makes a mediocre Catwoman (at best).

It does suck that he'll miss out on some great photo ops, but he could drop the cash he saves by missing out on prom on something that is really cool...like a Cub-Cardinals series this summer.
